This week has been very entertaining. Firstly starting my new job (giving me a new routine and less time for boredom) finally turning 20 years old (time for anti-wrinkle cream) and after months of patiently waiting, Sex & The City the movie!!
My new Boss (think Ross Gellar with turrets) is very sarcastic. He informed me that the only reason I got the job was because 1) I wasn’t blonde, irritating or thick 2) I didn’t wear flip flops for the interview (a previous applicant actually did this) and 3). I’m not fat and can actually fit behind the desk, without the need for him to push it forward (again, a previous candidate situation) Even though he swears a lot and likes the odd Abba song, I like him. He’s comical and politely drinks the tea I make him at 9am (even though it probably tastes like piss)
The Patients (are either psychologically unstable, old and unable to hear, young and unwilling to listen, cheerful, grumpy, dim-witted or extremely intriguing) like the 86 year old Irish man who tells me stories about his life growing up in Ireland, whilst I get him to sign his paperwork. An unstable one I have encountered, is a middle-aged lady who informs us that the French are after her and she needs somewhere to hide (I point to the cupboard)
It wasn’t too busy at work on Saturday, so I spent the majority of my time either staring out of the window (and looking right at the cake shop) or sitting at my desk, cup of tea in my hand and reading an old copy of Elle. Compared to my old job, this seriously is a walk in the park. If there are no afternoon appointments, my boss leaves early (allowing me time to daydream, rummage through the box of fashion magazines in the kitchen, gossip about life & love, sing along to the radio and write notes to myself) I only need to work for just over a year, I wouldn't mind working here to pass the time. The money is good, it's convenient, the people make me smile and I get a few days off in the week to explore the world. Perfect.
I had a lovely surprise when I returned home from work. When I walked into the kitchen, I was greeted by people singing ‘Happy Birthday’ (yes, I still get extremely embarrassed when this happens) I blew out my candles and made a wish (fingers crossed it actually does come true) opened up my presents, got a little tipsy (2 glasses of wine and I’m a very very merry lady) sang songs, and then came back to devour my double chocolate cake covered in strawberries, fudge chunks, marshmallows and caramel swirls (delicious)
The second part of my celebration was going to watch Sex & The City. We all put on our highest heels (shoes glorious shoes) and had a few drinks before finally heading into Screen number 6. The atmosphere was amazing. The place was so packed, some people even stood up to watch the film as there were no seats left! It’s amazing how popular something can be! 400 people cheered, screamed, laughed, cried and even applauded at the end. I must say, I had an incredible night and the best part? Carrie Bradshaw finally married BIG….
I'm feeling much happier now that I'm busy (and have met someone truly special) You see, I'm the kind of girl that likes to have some sort of structure. I like knowing where I'm going in life and being able to construct a plan. I suppose I've always been in love with the world. Growing up, I learnt to appreciate the little things in life and to not take things, or even people for granted. Like I said before, I'm quite the gypsy and would like to travel the world, armed with green tea, an Ipod and of course some form of transport (think Harry's shaggy dog van from dumb & dumber)
...anyway with my happiness and more structured life, I'll end this blog here(with a smile)
P.S- 13 days
